The federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001 requires that all teachers teaching in core academic subject areas must be highly qualified. Teachers of core academic subjects, K-12, in a program supported by Title I funds, must meet the requirements upon employment. All teachers of record of core academic subjects, K-12, must document highly qualified status at the Tipton County Board of Education by the local opening day of the school year.
The following information has been made available to answer questions for Tipton County teachers and administrators.

For each grade level, (elementary, middle and secondary), the law requires that teachers demonstrate competency in the applicable subject areas and outlines multiple mechanisms for demonstrating their competency. The Tennessee plan for implementing the federal requirements outlined in NCLB represent the state's on-going efforts to apply the federal reqirements to Tennessee teachers.
