Library Hours
The Library is open 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Monday through Friday.
The library will also be open by special request on evenings if groups
of students need additional library time. Students should contact
one of the librarians well in advance to set up these special times. If you have
any questions concerning the library, you may email Mrs.
Schieffer.
Checkout Policies
Books in the MHS Library
generally fall into three categories: regular circulating books, special
circulating books, and reference books. All students are required
to present their student ID at the circulation desk at the time of check
out.
Regular circulating books, such as works of fiction, biography, history
etc., may be checked out for two weeks. Special circulating books,
such as books a teacher has placed on reserve, may be checked out for one
hour or overnight. Reference books may be checked out at the end
of the day for overnight use only and must be returned the next school
day before 8:00 a.m. Please note, not all reference books may be checked out.
Overdue Books
With the exception of reference and reserve books (see
below), overdue books accumulate fines at the rate of ten cents for each school day during
which the items are still not returned. Overdue
reference and reserve books, however, accumulate fines at the rate of one
dollar each night and twenty-five cents for each school day hour during
which they are not returned.
Renewal of Books
Students may renew books as often as needed. To renew a book,
however, students must have the actual physical book in their possession at the circulation
desk. Books left at home, for example, cannot be renewed.
Reserve Books
Sometimes teachers select a special group of books from the library
which they want an entire class to use. In order to ensure that these books are evenly
distributed among all the students involved, the books are placed on a special reserve shelf.
These may be checked out for overnight use; they are due back in the library the next school day
before 8:00 a.m. (Read Overdue Books for fines.)
Photocopying
The library staff will photocopy items for students at the cost of five
cents per page. Computer print-outs are ten cents per page. Payment is made at the time of purchase.
Library Passes
Students who desire to come to the library
should sign up and obtain a
pass in the library. Students who desire to come to the library during a study
hall should plan to stay in the library for the entire block. Passes will only be issued before school or between classes on the day in which
the pass is to be used.
Library Supplies
Students who need construction paper may get it at no cost.
Great Library Link
Memphis and Shelby County Library
has great references as well as a Learn-a-Test
link that is worth visiting. Just click on "Learn a Test" when you
reach this page.
Student Conduct
All students should remember that the library is a quiet place where people
read, study, and think. Such activities demand concentration, and concentration for the majority of people
demands quiet. Consideration for others using the library, therefore, is essential. Inconsiderate students
will be escorted back to study hall or class.
