This course will concentrate on political and physical features of the world. Political groupings on each continent along with the major physical features will be studied. Map skills and identification of the major national political states with their boundaries will be emphasized.

World History is the study if the historical development of human cultures. Its major premise is that a study of world cultures in a historical context can illustrate both the diversity and the similarities of cultures throughout history and can show how such cultural differences and similarities are relevant to the students' lives today.

U.S. History is the survey of the development of the United States from its European influence and origins to its present position in the world. Emphasis will be given to history since 1877.

This course is designed for the college bound student. It is a chronological survey of the development of the United States. Essays, readings, and research papers will be required. Emphasis will be place on history since 1877.

Course Name: AP U.S. History

Grade: 11-12

This course is designed for the student who would like to obtain college credit in high school. It is a chronological, topical, and thematic survey of American history. Emphasis will be placed on the analysis and synthesis of the major themes and interpretations of American history. The student will be expected to master and interpret lecture notes, a college text and numerous college level outside readings. This class prepares the student for the AP test which is prepared and graded by the College Board. A grade of 3 on a 5 point scale is required. A passing grade in the class does not guarantee a passing grade on the AP exam. A fee for the AP test is required. While the AP test results are accepted at most colleges, the student is responsible for determining its acceptability at the college of choice. Registration requirements/prerequisites for AP US History include 1) Complete the application form by the assigned deadline; 2) Receive positive recommendations from the course instructor and the principal/principal's designee; 3) Parent and student attend an orientation meeting with the AP instructor; 4) Parent and student sign a performance contract.

Economics is a course required for graduation. This course covers the basic principles of economics, the structure, operations and goals of the American economy with emphasis on the American free enterprise system.

This course is a requirement for graduation. In this course special emphasis is given to the study of the U.S. Constitution. This course also emphasizes the structure and inner workings of the state and federal governments.

Sociology is a study presenting ways sociologists investigate, describe, and analyze concepts and techniques used to convey an understanding of society. The process of socialization as it relates to cultural patterns, the character of the community and the effects of urbanization are examined in terms of the changes brought about by social movements.

Psychology is the study of human behavior. Students will learn about the major theorists and their theories. This course will give students the opportunity to gain a better understanding of people and themselves.
