This course is a personal typewriting course with concentration on learning to type reports, manuscripts with textual citations, personal and business letters and resumes. It is recommended as a pre-requisite for any higher level computer course and for all college bound students. It will also satisfy the prerequisite requirement for Office Technology I.

Course Name: Document Creation Design
Prerequisites: Keyboarding

The student will use a hands-on approach to develop proficiency in document preparation. Emphasis is on production of business applications including design and layout, speed and accuracy. Concepts, capabilities, procedures, and legal responsibilities of word and information processing are applied. Simulated and real projects from rough draft copy and/or transcription magnetic media are used for problem solving and business document preparation.

Course Name: Internet Navigation Communications Systems

The course will address the use of the Internet developing concepts, particularly those related to Web browsers, navigators, search engines, on-line communication methods, home and Web site design concepts, transfer of data, downloading files, security procedures and Internet navigation tools. The student will choose and use appropriate tools needed for Internet applications. Emphasis will be placed on electronic research, business report writing, business correspondence, enhancement of oral presentation with electronic media and communications applying current technology.

This course will enable students to develop skills in electronic publishing design, layout, composition and paste-up. The techniques will be applied in creating and formatting various publications that require imported data/graphics using resources such as the Internet, scanner, etc. The student will research and apply copyright laws, ethical practices and language arts skills with reference to electronic publishing.

This course is designed to give the student and introduction to Beginner's All-Purpose Symbolic Instruction Code (BASIC). The student will use Microsoft Visual Basic to write practical applications. Concepts that will be covered include designing a user interface, writing code, using if-then statements and using looping techniques.

Grade: 11-12

Programming II continues instruction of programming in Microsoft Visual Basic, including extending looping concepts to multilevels and applying them to sorting routines. Multi-dimensional arrays, nested loops, special functions and file operations are also involved.
