ARTICLE II PURPOSE OF THE ORGANIZATION

Section 1. The purpose of this organization shall be to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, promote and support leadership, and to develop character in the students at Munford High School.

ARTICLE III POWERS VESTED IN THE ORGANIZATION; THE RIGHT TO VETO

Section 1. The Faculty Council has the right to veto the principal's decision with a two-thirds vote in matters pertaining to membership, probation or dismissal of its chapter members.

ARTICLE IV DEFINITION OF MEMBERSHIP

Section 1. A member of this chapter is expected to continue demonstrating the qualities of scholarship, service, leadership and character. Members are expected to maintain the standards by which they were selected.

Section 2. A member must attend meetings and perform both individual and chapter service projects.

ARTICLE V NOMINATION AND SELECTION OF THE MEMBERS

Section 1. A roster is run for students with a 3.3 grade point average or above. The students must be enrolled in the university, technical or dual path programs.

Section 2. The roster is screened by the faculty and the administration for conduct that is below satisfactory. A student must not have any out of school or in school suspensions, or more than two office referrals.

Section 3. An application form is then submitted to the remaining applicants. On the day (preferably a Tuesday) the form is presented to the applicants, a note is attached asking them to meet with the sponsor during the activity period. During this time the application is fully reviewed with the applicants and stress is put on completing every column and category since their scores are dependent on the four areas established by the national organization. A deadline for submitting the applications is established and they are told to see the sponsor, co-sponsor, or any of the officers if help is needed.

Section 4. When all applications are in, the applications are scored as follows:

Scholarship: The grade point average of the student is placed on the application with 4.0 being the highest possible points achieved.

Leadership: The categories for leadership are on the front cover of the application and one point is given for each membership and/or activity. Another point is given if the student is an elected officer.

Character: Recommendation forms are required from at least three teachers. All sheets are averaged for a numerical score with five being the highest possible points.

Service: one point is earned for each verified activity area up to a maximum of 6 points.

There is a maximum of twenty-one points possible. As suggested by the National Honor Society rulebook, a student must score 80% of those possible points (16.8) to be eligible for membership.

Section 5. Once the scores have been tallied for each applicant, the qualifying applications are taken before the faculty council. The faculty council will vote on each of the applicants.

Section 6. The favorable applicants are then given letters informing them of their acceptance into the National Honor Society. The letters inform them of their induction service that will officially designate them as members.

A potential inductee must be present to be inducted, however, induction in absentia is allowable if the faculty council approves the candidates petition. Another letter requests that they indicate acceptance or denial for membership into the organization.

Section 7. Should any student on the university, technical, or dual paths with a 3.3 GPA , not meet all of the selection criteria, the Faculty Council may consider bestowing "Honorary Membership" upon the student. This membership grants the recipient all of the privileges of the membership without the obligations associated with "active member status.
