Family Involvement Plan
Munford Elementary School is committed to the goal of providing quality education for every child. To this end, we want to establish partnerships with parents and with the community. Everyone gains if school and home work together to promote high achievements for our children. The following is in compliance with legal requirements for our children and in accordance with our philosophy of that commitment. Please read this policy and notify us if you have any questions.
All parents will be invited to an annual public meeting held during the beginning of each school year. At this meeting, this policy, legal requirements, and parents’ rights to be involved will be explained. The “No Child Left Behind Act” will be discussed as well as the status of the school based on its performance. A handout will be provided to parents about the school’s performance.
Additional activities held periodically during the school year may include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Holding workshops or training sessions at flexible times. Some areas included for workshops or training may be: Homework Tips How to Prepare Your Child for TCAP Games for Learning Helping Your Child Become a Better Reader
All available resources, such as Federal Projects, Special Education, Family Resource Centers, etc., will be used for these training sessions.
2. Providing parent questionnaires during Parent-Teacher Conferences to obtain input for future program improvement.
3. Sending class newsletters weekly and a monthly school newsletter and calendar to encourage teacher, parent, student communication. Also, sending letters of invitation to special events 1 to 2 weeks prior to the event with a follow-up call made 1 day prior to the event using the School Connects Synrevoice calling system.
4. Providing information on the curriculum and assessments through: class newsletters, parent letters about STAR performance, individual portfolios, AR individual student reports, mid-nine week reports, and report cards every nine weeks. Providing the state web site to parents for locating the TN Blueprint standards.
5. Giving parents the opportunity of requesting a meeting in person, by note, phone call or E-mail. Answering of the request will be done in a timely manner.
6. Discussing and signing a Parent-School-Student Compact during school registration.
7. Providing Parent-Teacher Conferences (at least 2 per year). Giving parents the opportunity of meeting with teachers and participating in the educational program of the child.
8. Providing parents with an opportunity of submitting differing views if the program plan is not acceptable.
