Tennessee Plan for Implementing
the Teacher Quality Provisions of the
No Child
Left Behind Act of 2001
The federal No Child Left Behind
(NCLB) Act of 2001 requires that all teachers teaching in core academic subject
areas must be highly qualified no later than the end of the 2005-06 school year.
Teachers of core academic subjects, K-12, newly hired after the first day
of school in the 2002-03 school year to teach in a program supported by Title
I funds, must meet the requirements upon employment. All teachers
of record of core academic subjects, K-12, must document highly qualified status
at the Tipton County Board of Education by the local opening day of the 2006-07
school year.
The following information has been made available to answer questions for Tipton
County teachers and administrators.
For each grade level, (elementary, middle and secondary), the law requires that
teachers demonstrate competency in the applicable subject areas and outlines
multiple mechanisms for demonstrating their competency. The Tennessee
plan for implementing the federal requirements outlined in NCLB represent the
state's on-going efforts to apply the federal reqirements to Tennessee teachers.
For information on tools that may be used by Tennessee teachers to achieve
highly qualified status, go to NCLB Requirements for Highly
Qualified Teachers.
If you need information regarding what test to take in order to demonstrate
subject area competency, the current PRAXIS tests and scores
for Tennessee can be found here. If you
need information regarding what tests meet highly qualified requirements for
a specific subject area, click here. For
PRAXIS test dates and registration information go to the PRAXIS
website.
Special Populations
teachers must meet highly qualified requirements as set forth on January 5,
2005.
