How can I help my child study?  I don’t know Spanish!

1.  Provide positive support.  Encourage your child to do the best he or she can in every class.  Knowing that parents support them yet still expect them to try hard can be a powerful motivator.  Don’t let them give up just because something is difficult.

2.  Study vocabulary with your child.  One of the hardest things for students to do is learn vocabulary.  We will learn over 1200 words just in Spanish I and students are expected to retain those words while adding new ones through the end of Spanish II.  Make flashcards and study every night.  Focus on definition as well as spelling.  The hard work will be worth it in the end.  (You can’t speak a foreign language if you don’t know the words in the language!)

3.  Encourage your child to come to tutoring.  Currently, tutoring is held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 2:45 until ~3:30.  If your child is getting frustrated or if you know he or she just does better with one-on-one instruction, provide a way for him or her to be here.  I’m here to help!
