Class/Homework Folder: Class/Homework are assignments in which the student demonstrates that he or she can use the concepts learned from the textbook. THERE ARE NO REASONS THAT A CLASS/HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT IS LATE. A 5 point bonus is available for a portfolio that is 100% completed in pencil. Deductions will be giving for homework turned in which are completed in pen (5 point the first time, 10 points the second, 20 points the third, 30 points the forth, and thereafter.).

Chapter Tests and Nine Weeks Exam: There will be a chapter test for each chapter covered during the nine week period, in addition to a Nine Week exam that will be comprehensive (cover all material). NO LATE OR MAKEUP EXAMS WILL BE GIVEN FOR ANY REASON WITHOUT A PROPER EXCUED ABSENCE

Notebook Check: There will be a notebook check during the nine week period, a rubric will be available prior to first check.

Extra Credit: I may give the students an extra credit project to do which provides an extension from a unit we are working on in class. However, I will not give students extra credit simply to bring up a grade beyond the normal opportunities.

Participation: Each week each student starts with 10 class participation points (100 points total weekly average). This course requires each student to contribute to the class discussions. If a student is not in class, sleeping in class, or not abiding by the county, school or class policies he/she cannot be participating and will be deducted points. A student may lose up to three points a day (30 points deducted from the average), and may gain up to 5 points a week. (50 points added to the average)

To pass this course, you must work toward earning a passing grade for each nine weeks, semester tests and for the Abacus and End of Course exam (Counts as Final Exam).

Late Work

The timely submission of work for correcting and performance feedback is essential in order to accurately learn the course material. Each activity builds on knowledge gained from the previous activity. This requires the submission of all work in order for a passing grade to be possible. Late work will have  5 points deducted per day with 30 points being the maximum deduction for work being late.

Absences and Tardiness

It is difficult to support your learning when you are not present in class. Course subjects can only be effectively learned when you are in class on a regular basis. However, I definitely understand that illness and such can keep you away from school. If an assignment is late because of an excused absence, you will have 2 days for every day of an excused absents in order to complete the assignment for full credit. For example, suppose you are absent (excused) for 3 days. Upon returning to class, you will have up to six additional days to complete and turn in any missed assignments for full credit. Make-up work that is not completed will result in zero (0) points, and this will have the potential of lowering your overall grade. If you miss a test due to an excused absence, you need to immediately schedule a make-up time to occur within seven (3) calendar days of your return to class. Failure to do this will also result in zero (0) points, and this will have the potential of lowering your overall grade. It is your responsibility to request and turn in make-up work, and to re-schedule make-up tests. I will handle all unexcused absences and tardies in accordance with established Tipton County School Board policies. However, late arrival to class is disrespectful to everyone. Should you arrive in class after the second bell, you will sign in the Tardy Book.

Materials:

3-Ring Binder: All students are required to have a notebook with a math section. They will also need lined paper and graph paper available daily.

Calculator: Minimum, students will need a basic 4-function calculator. It would be best if they had a scientific calculator. I recommend Texas Instruments, as that is the brand I am familiar with; however, any scientific calculator will be beneficial in passing this course.

Pencil: All work must be done in pencil. Students should come to class with two sharpened pencils, or a mechanical pencil, with lead. A pen may be used to take notes and place his or her name on the paper; however, I must reaffirm all work must be completed in pencil.

Textbook: All students will be issued a Geometry text book. It is a brand new book this year, I highly recommend you cover it as the cost to replace this book is $60.
