  • Bell work: Make the following subordinate clauses into complete sentences:

    2. while I was Christmas shopping
    3. that I found last Thursday
  • Power Point on Body Paragraphs (You can find a link to this power point on my home page.)
  • Brainstorm in groups and timed essay on the following topic:

 

Writing Situation: A law has been passed that requires high school students to pass exit tests before they graduate from high school.

Consider carefully the advantages and disadvantages of passing required exit tests.  Do you agree or disagree with making high-stakes exit tests, such as the Gateway Test, a requirement for high school graduation?

Directions for Writing: Write an essay in which you persuade the reader to support your point of view.  Support a position with specific reasons and examples.

  • Writing Folders: Notes on introductory paragraph, body paragraphs, and conclusion paragraph written on the inside of your writing folder
    • Read Time article on four-day school weeks
    • Brainstorm topic (pros and cons list)
    • Write the introductory paragraph, first body paragraph, topic sentences only for the second and third body paragraphs, and conclusion paragraph; This assignment is for a grade.

  • Write vocabulary 3 sentences. These are due next Monday.
  • Computer lab to print off essays, view scores, read scoring guides, and read sample papers. Students respond to three questions about their essay.
