Ostracism- 1:  a method of temporary banishment by popular vote without trial or special accusation practiced in ancient Greece; 2:  exclusion by general consent from common privileges or social acceptance.

 

1.     How might this word be used today?  (ostracized)

2.     Why would ostracism be a threat to ancient Athenians?  (What did their community mean to them? How would you feel if you were banished from somewhere that you loved?)
