2006-2007
Members of
Business Professionals of America

This was an excellent group of students that went to State Competitions
 in Franklin, TN in 2007.

This year Mrs. Bird and myself plan to have an even better group going to competitions with anticipation of going to Nationals in Atlanta, GA with Future Business Leaders of America.

Both clubs are excellent organizations and even though Tennessee has chosen to go with Future Business Leaders of America for their Business Professional Club at the high school level the same qualities will be instilled in these young people for them to become successful business professionals.

FBLA-PBL's Mission:

To bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs.

Tomorrow's Business Leader

This is one of the publications that is published four times a year at the high school and middle school level.  This publication features interviews with successful business leaders and articles on leadership, career options, postsecondary education alternatives, job-building skills, FBLA programs and services, and local chapter news.

Would you like to see your name in print? FBLA is looking for articles from business experts, chapter advisers, Professional members, and others who have experience and good advice for our readers. To submit an article or to find out more about writers' guidelines, please e-mail the editor at communications@fbla.org.

How do you join you ask? You can get information on how to join from Mrs. Bird, rm 110 or Mrs. Brasch, rm 117.

As a member of any club or organization you only get as much out of the organization as you contribute to the organization.  We, Mrs. Bird and I, expect for you to join, have fun, take advantage of the opportunities that this organization offers, and be actively involved.  We will be involved with a variety of fund raisers and  community service projects for each of our members to understand the concept of teamwork, dedication, community and grow into Business Professionals.

Competition is GREAT!

Getting ready for competition is always a good time to check with members for feedback about your upcoming presentation.  Their support and confidence can always settle the nerves.

We have a great time but are serious as well.  FBLA has rules and guidelines just like their are here at Brighton High School. For Instance:

Dress Code

FBLA-PBL members and advisers should develop an awareness of the image one's appearance projects. The purpose of the dress code is to uphold the professional image of the association and its members and to prepare students for the business world. Appropriate attire is required for all attendees - advisers, members, and guests - at all general sessions, competitive events, regional meetings, workshops, and other activities unless otherwise stated in the conference program. Conference name badges are part of this dress code and must be worn for all conference functions. For safety reasons, do not wear name badges when touring.

Professional attire acceptable for official FBLA-PBL activities include:

Males

  • Business suit with collar dress shirt, and necktie or
  • Sport coat, dress slacks, collar shirt, and necktie or
  • Dress slacks, collar shirt, and necktie.
  • Banded collar shirt may be worn only if sport coat or business suit is worn.
  • Dress shoes and socks.

Females

  • Business suit with blouse or
  • Business pantsuit with blouse or
  • Skirt or dress slacks with blouse or sweater or
  • Business dress.
  • Dress shoes.
  • Nylons when wearing skirts and dresses. *

Inappropriate attire, for both men and women, includes:

  • Jewelry in visible body piercing, other than ears
  • Denim or chambray fabric clothing of any kind, overalls, shorts, skorts, stretch or stirrup pants, exercise or bike shorts
  • Backless, see-through, tight-fitting, spaghetti straps, strapless, extremely short, or low-cut blouses/tops/dresses/skirts
  • T-shirts, Lycra, spandex, midriff tops, tank tops, bathing suits
  • Sandals, athletic shoes, industrial work shoes, hiking boots, bare feet, or over-the-knee-boots
  • Athletic wear, including sneakers
  • Hats or flannel fabric clothing
  • Bolo ties
  • Visible foundation garments

Clarification: Many women's two-piece suits are currently designed so that they do not require a blouse. Therefore, this will be accepted. In addition, sling-back shoes, open-toe shoes, and sleeveless dresses are accepted.
