The 2007-2008 Brighton High School wrestling team used their 2007-2008 wrestling
season as a kind of rebuilding year. After losing seniors like Demetrius J.,
Andrew C., and Josh R., this was going to be a hard year for the wrestling
team.Taylor H. said,
“Our team has always had some good individual wrestlers, but we have never really
beena strong team all around. This year the team is not where it should be.We
had many
first year wrestlers this year; even though they have improved through the
season, they are still first year wrestlers who didn
’t have experience which the team needs to be where it should.”
Saturday, Feb. 9th the wrestling team headed to the Regional Tournament to
compete for a place in the state tournament Feb. 14th - 16th. Only three
wrestlers made it in to the finals. Zach D. (152) and Dustin M. (189) both from
Munford made it into the consolation finals where they were both defeated which
made them 4th in the region for their weight class.Unfortunately, only the top
three in each weight get to go to state. JeremyJ. (285), also from Munford,
made it to the finals and won to become the Region 10 Champion for his weight
class for the second year. Jeremy was the only one to go to the state
tournament where he won his first match, but lost his second and third to put
him out of the tournament.
