TEENS AND ABUSE
                            By: Hunter M.

There are many problems in the youth of America today. These problems include alcohol, drug, and physical abuse. These problems are the top causes of  teen death in the United States. Typically these problems start at a young age and follow into adulthood. There have been many organizations opened to help cope with these problems.

Teens consume one-fith of alcohol brought into the U.S.. The rate of fatal crashes among alcohol-involved drivers between 16 and 20 years old is more than twice the rate of drivers 21 years old (the legal drinking age). These statistics are shocking and rising every year. Even more shocking is the suicide rate. Alcohol use interacts with conditions such as depression and stress to contribute to suicide, the third leading cause of death among people between the ages of 14 and 25.

Drugs are one of the biggest problems in the world. Teens start drug use earlier every year. They start with experimenting with friends, and eventually develop an addiction to the substance. The next biggest cause of  addiction is depression in the home. Most teens who have had a hard home life turn to some type of drug to deal with the every day stress. These are just some of the many reasons for teen drug addiction.

Four children die every day as a result of abuse. A report of child abuse is reported every 10 seconds. Adults abused as children statically grow up and commit some type of violent crime. 36.7% of all women in prison and 14.4% of all men in prison were abused as children. One third of children abused will grow to abuse their children, continuing a violent chain. If you or a friend you know are currently suffering with any of these problems you should seek some kind of help before its too late. The older you get the more likely the problems could evolve into bigger problems.
