1^st 9 WEEKS’ OBJECTIVES:
Parts of speech Capitalization Simple subject and verb	Punctuation using commas -with compound sentences -with introductory clauses and phrases -with items in a series -with more than one adjective
We will be learning these skills in literature: point of view, vocabulary, characterization, mood, setting, plot, and conflict.
2^nd 9 WEEKS’ OBJECTIVES:
Sentence fragments Verb tense	Subject/verb agreement Combining sentences
We will focus on these skills in literature: symbolism, point of view, theme, mood, characterization, analogies, irony, plot, allusion, and sequence.
3^rd 9 WEEKS’ OBJECTIVES:
Quotations Vivid adjectives and verbs Stages of the writing process	Comparative/Superlative degree
We will focus on these skills in literature: dramatic irony, cause and effect, conflict, tragedy, foreshadowing, soliloquy, monologue, and aside. We will read Romeo and Juliet.
4th 9 WEEKS’ OBJECTIVES: Compound words Context clues Pronoun/antecedent agreement Persuasive devices Analogies	Figurative Language Personification Transitional words- usage Easily confused words
We will focus on these skills in literature: vocabulary, point of view, characterization, cause and effect, and conflict. We will be reading The Odyssey.
