BHS Choir Guidelines 2008 - 2009 Choral Dues
Because our choral program does not receive any funding from
the Board of Education we are requiring choral dues of $40 per choir student
this year. This allows us to fund our
program without much fundraising except for our concert receipts. Funds raised by these dues will enable us
to continue to purchase necessary music and equipment used throughout the
year. These dues will not cover field
trips. These dues should be paid by
August 29th and any checks should be made out to Class Rules
1.
Follow the directions the first time given. 2.
Give your best effort at each and every rehearsal and performance. 3.
Pick up your music before moving to the risers. 4.
Listen to instructions given by the teacher or other class leaders. 5.
Demonstrate respect and a good attitude toward the director and other
choir members. Discipline
My basic philosophy for class
discipline is for students to do the right thing at the right time. Personal responsibility is vital to our
choir and is expected. Students who
want our choir program to be a success should be where they’re supposed to
be, when they’re supposed to be, doing what they’re supposed to be
doing. I will assign students extra
assignments if they choose to not comply with the class rules and won’t
hesitate to call parents if the need arises. Attendance
Student roll checkers will
check daily attendance and give the list of absentees to the head roll
checker. If a student is absent
from class for any reason he or she must get their agenda book stamped in the
attendance office or library before coming to class and then show it the
head roll checker or myself. If a
student does not have their agenda book stamped before coming to class they
will be sent to the attendance office to take care of this and will receive a
tardy. Roll will also be checked at
each performance. Rehearsals
Most rehearsals will be held on
the choir risers and students should be prepared for frequent sectionals. Folders
should be picked up before our rehearsal begins. When arriving to class, students should go
immediately to their riser after picking up their folder. If their riser is not set up yet, then they
should begin helping others do so.
When a student’s section is not rehearsing it is essential that they
remain quiet so that others may hear. Complete
attention is expected when rehearsing.
Any playing and talking will result in a warning and disciplinary
action if further problems arise. Grades
Grades are determined by daily
participation, test scores, daily assignments, and performances. Concerts
We will perform 2 - 4 concerts
throughout the school year.
Performance dates will be given out later this semester. Each performance is required and
performance attendance will be part of the nine weeks grade. Students and parents are encouraged to go
to my school webpage for concert information at www.tipton-county.com/bhs
under the faculty heading. Attire
Students will wear concert
attire purchased from Southeastern performance apparel. Measurements and fittings will take place
within the first month of school and payment for concert attire will need to
be made by Friday, September 5th.
The girls’ attire will consist of a short-sleeve floor-length black
dress which will cost $56 and their own black dress shoes. The sizes for the dresses run from 0 to 28.
If a special cut dress is required, $30 must be added to the cost of the
dress. Boys’ attire will consist of
black tux pants, white tux shirt, black bow tie, and cummerbund and will cost
$36. I may have a list of former choir
students who would like to sell their dresses and I will be glad to give you
that contact information if you are interested. (It would be very helpful if a parent
could help me with the fittings and measurements so if you are available
please contact me at school at 837-5800, email at ainman@tipton-county.com,
or send a note via your student.) Theory
Work
Students will sometimes have
theory work as a daily or homework assignment. A pretest will be given in August to
determine what theory concepts each student needs to work on and work will be
assigned based on this assessment. Understanding theory concepts is vital to
the progress of our choral program and will be counted as a part of the
student’s nine weeks grade. Snack
Cart
If time allows during rehearsal
I will allow snack cart, but it should not be counted on daily - especially
when we are nearing a performance. No
food or drink will be brought to the risers.
Students must clean up their area before leaving the classroom. We have a new facility this year and would
like to keep it looking great. Honor Choir
Auditions for All-Northwest
Senior and Junior High Honor Choirs will be held on September 27th (senior)
and November 1st (junior).
These choirs, which are made up of students all across Parental Involvement
We don’t have a formal choir
booster program, but I welcome parental assistance and support. Parents are needed to help with sizing of
outfits, chaperoning field trips, taking up money at concerts, and various
other areas. If you would like to help
in any area or would be willing to discuss beginning a booster program for our
choir please contact me. As a parent,
I know how busy everyone is, but your help would be greatly appreciated and
would enhance our growing music program. Communication
If any parent or student has a
question regarding our choral program you may contact me in the following
ways: E-mail - ainman@tipton-county.com Phone - 837-5800 (school) |
