The chapters we will be studying the 3rd 9 weeks are chapters 23-28.

 

The objectives for Chapter 23 are:

8.1.2  Understand the effects of World War II upon American society.

8.2.2  Understand how World War II affected the American economy.

8.3.1  Identify the countries affected by the totalitarian states and their acts of aggression and expansion considering geographic location.

8.4.2  Recognize the effects of the Great Depression on the civil liberties during World War II.

8.5.2  Understand the changing dynamics of American life during World War II.

8.6.2  Understand the changing dynamics of American life during World War II.

 

8 spi 1 Identify the causes of World War II (Treaty of Versailles, fascism, failure of League of Nations, Japanese imperialism, economic worldwide difficulties)

8 spi 3  Recognize the definitions of totalitarianism, fascism, communism, nationalism, and anti-Semitism.

8 spi 5  Interpret a timeline of major events from World War II.

8 spi 7 Recognize WWII alliances.

8 spi 8 Analyze how WWII affected the American economy (women in the workforce, movement to urban centers, minority employment, post war G.I. Bill, rationing, childcare)

8 spi 9 Recognize the effect of the New Deal and WWII on Tennessee (creation of Fort Campbell the Clarksville base, TVA, Secretary of State Cordell Hull, Oak Ridge)

8 spi 10 Evaluate the impact of the Manhattan Project (the creation of Oak Ridge, nuclear proliferation, espionage, ethical debate, medical experimentation, Nagasaki, Hiroshima)

 

THERE WILL BE PERIODIC POP QUIZZES OVER READING AND NOTES.

 

TEST OVER CHAPTER 23 AND 24 WILL BE January 21, 2010 FOR ODD January 22, 2010 FOR EVEN.

9 spi 11 Read and interpret Cold War documents (e.g. Truman’s announcement of the dropping of atomic bombs, the contrast between Eisenhower’s farewell speech and Kennedy’s speech at Kennedy’s inaugural, Goldwater’s 1964 party nomination acceptance speech, Johnson’s Gulf of Tonkin declaration)

About Me

I grew up in Drummonds, TN, and graduated from Munford High School in 2000. I graduated from UT Martin in 2004 where I played varsity softball for four years. I majored in Secondary Education - History with a Government endorsement. I also have a Masters Degree in Education and Supervision from UT Martin. In addition to all of this I teach online courses for e4TN.

I am the assistant coach for the Brighton High softball team and the head volleyball coach. I am married to Steve Clark. We have a baby girl named Lane Elizabeth, a black puppy named Abby and a golden puppy named Jake.  We love going fishing in the summer and enjoy snow skiing in the winter.
