TECHNOLOGY TASK #3
BHS Lesson Plan Template
Opening, Completing, Attaching to Email
BEGINNER LEVEL: Opening the attachment and printing.
I have emailed each of you the lesson plan form as an Excel attachment. (Many thanks to Dr. Bierdz, who constructed the form in Excel for us…)
(1) Login to
GroupWise and open the email from me containing the template.

(2) At the above screen, single-click the Save As link.
(3) At the following screen, choose Save.

(4) In the Save
As box that opens, click the drop-down arrow and choose your F: or G: drive. (Your drop-down
list will not look exactly like this one, of course..)
Click the Save button.

(5) After choosing the network drive, you need to make a new folder for that area of the network so that you can save both the template and your lesson plan files each week into the folder.

Single-click the New Folder button and name the folder Lesson Plans 2004.

Click Open and then click the Save button.
(6) Close GroupWise. You may also close Internet Explorer.
(6) Open Excel and open the file.
(7) Click in the long cell under Teacher and type your name. Click in the cell under Date and type the dates of the week for which you are filling out the Lesson Plan form.

Note: This file is actually just an Excel
spreadsheet, so regular Excel formatting options are available.
(8) SAVE your file. IMPORTANT: Please read 8d CAREFULLY!
a) Click File / Save As.

b)
You need to rename the file using YOUR NAME and the week
Garnett Sept 27-Oct 1
You
may use letters, numbers, or spaces in the file name. DO NOT use any punctuation in the name except the dash (or hyphen).
c)
Click the
down-arrow of the Save In box and
select your network drive. Pick your
Lesson Plans 2004 folder.
d) IMP: Make sure that the Save as Type box says Microsoft
Excel Workbook, not Template. If it says Template, click the down-arrow and select Microsoft Excel Workbook.
e) Click SAVE.

Note: By saving this way, you are saving the lesson plan file as an Excel worksheet, not saving your information in the template. Your file will be saved in the folder, but your empty template will also be in there ready for next week.
(9) Print your lesson plan page.

ALTERNATIVE
If you save your file a different way, you will be able to save just ONE file instead of having a file for each week. This file will have a tab at the bottom with the week’s date on it. When you email the file, it will have the lesson plan sheet for each week of the school year at the bottom, but the most current week will always be the one on top.
Positive side of doing it this way: very organized way of keeping your lesson plans all together.
Negative side: since you are saving the file into your network folder each week, it will be harder to complete the new week’s lesson plan sheet and email it from home (not impossible, though, so if you are interested, let me go over the options with you).
(1) Open the template from your email.
(2) Type your name in the Teacher box. Type in any other information that will not change from week to week, such as the class name in one of the long cells above Brighton High School Lesson Plans.
(3) Click the Save button.
(4) Notice the bottom area of the Excel file has the name of the file: Lesson Plan Form.

(5)
Right-click
the name of the file. From the menu
that appears, select Move or Copy.

(6) In the Move or Copy box that appears, put a checkmark in the Create a Copy area. Make sure that in the Before Sheet area has Lesson Plan Form highlighted. Click OK.
(7) Right-click the new tab that appeared Lesson Plan Form 2 and choose Rename. Name it the week that the lesson plan is for (ex: Oct 4-8).
(8) Fill
out the form, click the Save button
and save the file into your network folder.
Close Excel and email the form
to the appropriate person.
(9) For the Next Weeks: Open the original file again from your network folder. This time it will have two tabs at the bottom: Lesson Plan Form and Oct 4-8 (or whatever you named the sheet from the week before).
a. Right-click the Lesson Plan Form tab and choose Move or Copy again. Put a checkmark in the Create a Copy area and this time let the Before Sheet highlight be on last week’s lesson plan name. Click OK. This will allow the new blank Lesson Plan Form to be on the top.
b. Right-click the new tab and rename it for the new week.
c. Fill
out the form; click Save and email it
to the appropriate person.
