Seniors,
The
first semester of your senior year is over and it is time to start making serious plans for "life"
after high school. Applications for college and technical schools have deadlines
that must be met. Pay close attention – don’t let these slip by you. This
newsletter contains information on scholarships, financial aid and other
important data concerning graduation.

FINANCIAL AID/ Workshop Jan.29th –
The FAFSA – Free Application for Student Aid – can now be
submitted. This is used to apply for all
federal aid, including grants, loans and work-study. It is also the application for the Tennessee Lottery Scholarship.
Parents must complete income tax forms as soon as possible since the information is needed to complete the
application correctly. Apply on the
Internet a www.fafsa.ed.gov. If you need assistance in completing the form call 1-800-433-3243.

MEMBERS

Nelms
Family Scholarship Award- $750,
must have a 3.0, should be active in a civic organization that promotes
community activities. Must write a 2
page essay detailing community activity that you have participated in
preferably your senior year (civic or religious) A sponsor letter from an adult
leader must accompany the essay.
Deadline is

Memorial Scholarship - $500 –
must attend college pursuing a career in some type of Community Service
area. Must have 2.5, record of community
volunteer service and write and essay stating why you should receive this
scholarship.
WAL*MART/SAM’S
CLUB – SAM WALTON COMMUNITY
SCHOLARSHIP. . You
or your parents MAY NOT work for W*Mart or Sam’s. Must have a 2.5 GPA and be enrolling in 2 or
4 year school for the fall of 2004.

SCHOLARSHIP – for any
one that participated in SYS track, football or cheerleading. Deadline is

NAIFEH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
One
scholarship in the amount of $1000 will be awarded to a senior at BHS in memory
of Oney and Adele Naifeh.
Those eligible to apply are students who have a minimum 3.0 GPA and attend
college in
MC COOL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
One
scholarship in the amount of $1000 will be awarded to a student in
TURNER DAIRIES SCHOLARSHIPS
Five
$1000 scholarships will be awarded to student employees or children of
employees of Turner Dairies or employees of their wholesale customers. Deadline
is

BILL
GATES MINORITY SCHOLARSHIP – Must
have a 3.30, significant financial need. Get info at www.gmsp.org.
NAVY WIVES CLUB SCHOLARSHIP – must
be son/daughter of enlisted Navy, Marine, or Coast Guard – active, retired or
deceased. Must need financial
assistance. Deadline is May 30. Applications can be found at www.navywivesclubofamerica.org

Send in an application. Be sure to send
in the application fee also. You must apply for admission to the college before
you can be considered for a scholarship or financial aid.
2.
After applying for admission, request
your high school transcript be sent to the schools where you have applied.
3.
In May, request that your FINAL
transcript be sent tot he schools that you have chosen to attend.
4.
BE AWARE OF ALL DEADLINES for
scholarships, financial aid and admission.
REMINDERS!
1. Students with a GPA of 3.0
at the end of the 7th semester will receive an Honors designation on
their Diploma..
2. The last time to take the
ACT before graduation is

Day" must be taken by March 31.th.
4. ALL COURSES taken second
semester are just as important as those taken the first semester are.
