MISS KIM’S CORNER

-“During the Gulf War, the few opportunities I had for relaxation I always listened to music, and it brought to me great peace of mind.  I have shared my love of music with people throughout this world, while listening to the drums and special instruments of the Far East, Middle East, Africa, the Caribbean, and the Far North—and all of this started with the music appreciation course that I was taught in a third-grade elementary class in Princeton, NJ.  What a tragedy it would be if we lived in a world where music was not taught to children.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In a test of students in the 95th St. LA school, when given 4 months of piano keyboard training along with S.T.A.R. training, students scored a striking 27% higher on proportional math and fractions than children given a control training.  In another study, those children who received piano/keyboard training performed 34% higher on tests measuring spatial-temporal ability than the others.  These findings indicate that music uniquely enhances higher brain functions required for mathematics, science, engineering, and even chess.
And, Parents, one other Very Important Note, Children who study music boast better SAT scores than those who don’t—as much as 63 points higher in verbal and 44 higher in math! And, the higher your SAT/ACT scores, the more money you get toward college tuition!!
I am enjoying working with each student to bring out their hidden talents and to help add a dimension to their learning, that will help to keep it forever in their minds and at their fingertips!!
