Welcome to Challenge Club, 2009! I am looking forward to working with your
child this year. Our program goal is to
provide hands on opportunities for the gifted students to apply their basic
academic knowledge while improving their problem solving skills. This year’s focus will be an engineering –based
integration of math and science for all grade levels. All grades will be using the Singapore Math
program to improve their basic math facts along with problem solving of ACT
type word problems. An art and music
appreciation component will also be added.
Students will also receive grade level specific
instruction in problem solving, vocabulary, and logic activities. Kindergarten through second grade students
will focus on improving creativity and building academic vocabulary. Third grade students will be expanding
their vocabulary through the use of analogies and creative writing
activities. Fourth and fifth graders
will be exploring the origins of words both Greek and Latin. |
