Gateway Institute
July 16-19, Madison Academic Magnet High School, Jackson, TN
The Gateway training is being offered by the Divisions of Teaching and Learning and Career and Technical Education. The training has been reorganized into a four-day workshop to include the most beneficial lessons for academic, special education and career and technical education teachers. Each institute - algebra, biology and language arts - offers strategies and resources to teachers that raise achievement for all students.
Targeting Cross-Curricular Learning:
Integrating Language Arts and Social Studies Workshops
June 25-26, Northside High School, Jackson, TN
The Tennessee Department of Education is sponsoring a two-day Targeting Cross-Curricular Learning Workshop for K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12. The workshops will offer effective strategies for integrating the content areas of language arts and social studies. Participants will engage in interactive activities based on teacher-developed, classroom-ready lessons that are directly aligned with state curriculum standards.
Linking Assessment, Science Instruction, and Student Learning
Summer Science Academies for Teachers (Grades 6-12)
June 11-15, Memphis,TN
These Academies will introduce an exciting and fresh approach for using state standardized test item data as the starting point for a five day professional development experience that will offer content instruction by science professors. A team of outstanding middle and high school teachers will introduce new standards-based tools for designing instruction found on Tennessee’s Next Generation Tools for Standards-Based Science TeachingCD. Lunch is provided and a light snack. Session is limited to 30 participants.
Science Academy topics and activities will include: A Night or Afternoon at the Science Museum; Science content updates; Using podcasts; Using Scientist's Notebook; The Learning Cycle; Test Item Analysis; Science lab experiences; Teaching through inquiry; Strategies for modifying curriculum materials; and formative assessment.
Deadline to have the application to the central office for this academy is April 25!
Tipton County teachers who wish to attend a state sponsored activity should complete the application (.pdf) and send it to Marion Samuel at the Central Office no later than May 15.
