This presentation will include interactive websites, teacher resources, and internet based strategies to improve instruction through technology in the areas of Language Arts and Social Studies. The presentation will highlight great websites for writing instruction and virtual field trips. K-5

The internet has become a great learning tool. This session will share a large number of sites that are very educational and present learning in a way that is really exciting for students.

Using e-Beam (CLOSED)
Easily turn your white dry erase board into something truly engaging for students. Think interactive whiteboards are too expensive and cumbersome? Come see a portable, more affordable option with all the capabilities.

Best Educational Websites (K-5)
During this seminar, we will explore several educational websites that support a variety of content areas. Participants will be introduced to interactive websites that are suitable for students to actively explore at home and/or in the classroom. In addition to this, we will also examine some sites that have been proven to be great reference sources for both teachers and parents. All websites mentioned in the seminar will be conveniently located on the Austin Peay Elementary School website for future reference.

Creating Classroom Webpages
This session will give teachers the opportunity to explore various classroom webpages as well as begin working on a template to create their own classroom page. Different sites will be demonstrated to allow teachers to choose an avenue in which to create a page. Please be thinking of things you might want to include on a page and come ready to begin your journey onto the web.

Using Discovery Education (formerly United Streaming)
United Streaming offers curriculum based streaming videos for all subject areas by grade level. It includes curriculum standards, teacher guides, blackline masters, pre-assessments and post assessments for many of the videos. Some of the videos offer interactive activities which allow the students to compare their results with those of the video participants. Objectives include: creating a personal user account, explore videos and related materials, learning the differences between viewing videos using a PC or Mac and connecting to United Streaming via ThinkLink spi(s).

Using the COW
Learn about the Ignite Success Program, which is the COW (Curriculum on Wheels). Learn how to utilize the cow for teahing science and social studies. This program contains an interactive culminating authentic assessment after most of the lessons. Students enjoy the diversity of the lessons.

Digital Storytelling
Learn how to use PowerPoint to create digital stories. This technique can be used in a variety of ways to enhance your teaching strategies and students' learning. It can also be used as a class project to help students develop the art of story-telling. The process will be modeled with music, a digital camera and a computer.

Thinklink
A Thinklink analysis of the "Objectives and Subskills" reports will be used in order to develop lessons geared toward students' educational needs. This particular technology lesson will incorporate a mainstreaming video, a smartboard, and a thinklink practice probe, which will assist teachers in creating lessons that use a varied source of technology to teach, reteach, and/or enhance areas of strengths and/or weaknesses.

Free Educational Websites
The presentation will include information on how to locate, evaluate, and put into practice materials and resources from free educational internet sites. Websites will be explored that are geared towards free educational resources that can be printed as well as those that can be viewed as a class via smart station, as a daily center activity, or while in the computer lab. The presentation will explore specific websites that are used regularly in classrooms such as: www.free.ed.gov, www.americaslibrary.gov, and Pete’s PowerPoint; www.pppst.com.

Podcasting has been gaining popularity for four years, and the possibilities for both elementary and secondary classrooms continue to skyrocket. Come see what this new way of communicating offers you, your students, their parents, and the entire community. Find out exactly what Podcasting is, hear outstanding examples, and learn the basics of creating your own for your classroom.

Kidspiration – Organize Learning in Your Classroom
In this session you will view examples of how to use Kidspiration to help your students visualize, organize or categorize information. Research shows that visual learning is one of the most effective means for teaching thinking skills. By providing a framework that allows users to focus on topics, and a structure that permits them to easily convert diagrams to outlines and back again, the software programs Inspiration and Kidspiration help students (and adults) organize their thoughts and overcome their fear of the "blank page" as they tackle writing assignments, projects, and more.

PowerPoint Games for the Classroom (CLOSED)
This session will introduce teachers to new, innovative, and popular games created for classroom review and practice in PowerPoint. Game descriptions and directions, as well as ways to integrate each one, will be presented. A few example games to be presented include: Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?, Jeopardy, BattleGraph, and much more.
