Arts Education

From Kim Leavitt: There's a new Web site that's becoming extremely popular across the country. It's called "DonorChoose.org," and it's a non-profit company that allows teachers to place "wish lists" of supplies or equipment they need for classroom instruction.  Each teacher describes the project that they plan to do and the needed items  such as art supplies, a digital camera, books, etc.  Individuals and businesses then donate toward the project and the Web site keeps a tally of contributions for the teacher.

You can search by state and  county to locate TN schools (or Value Plus Schools) whom we hope will take advantage of this opportunity.  This is an excellent mechanism for giving a tax deductible donation toward a specific project.  My dad, who is a school teacher in NC, has had wonderful experiences with this Web site and now has a "loyal following" of people who check his Web listing each year when it comes time for their charitable giving.

The link to the Web site is:  http://www.donorschoose.org/homepage/main.html?zone=302
