LESSON PLANS · Each learning leader is responsible to submit weekly lesson plans to the principal by Monday morning before 8:30am. Lesson plans submitted later than 8:30am each Monday will be considered late. · Place them inside the three ring binder by grade located on the counter in the office across from the Conference Room. · Lesson Plans must include the SPI number (content area standard) for the objectives. · You may print a list of the SPI numbers from the state department website under curriculum or o Tipton County Schools website http://www/tipton-county.com o Curriculum Corner website http://www.tipton-county.com/ciaa/rbatson/ o TN Department of Education website http://www. o Lesson Plans must reflect the state assessed skills listed in the TN Blueprint for Learning. (The Bluebook) This may be accessed from the internet. o The skills listed will be checked off in the Bluebook. o Learning leaders should address each state assessed skill in class and lesson plans. Lesson Plans should include ways that the lesson will be differentiated. (Differentiated Instruction is a way of teaching)
INTEGRATED CONTENT AREAS: This is the subjects that will be covered in the lesson such as Math, Vocal Music or Language Arts, Science, Visual Art CONTENT AREA STANDARDS: These are “the learner will…” statements. These should be taken directly from the TN Bluebook standards that are coded with the letter “A” which stands for state assessed standards. Be sure to include the State Performance Indicator (SPI) number beside each standard. CONCEPTS: Concept lists are located on the next few pages. A concept spans across several subject areas and represents significant ideas, phenomena, intellectual process, or persistent problems. Concepts are timeless, universal, and can be represented through different examples that all have the same attributes. ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS: Hints for Writing Essential Understandings - Essential understandings synthesize ideas to show an important relationship, usually by combining two or more concepts. For example: People’s perspectives influence their behavior. Time, location, and events shape cultural beliefs and practices. Tips… When writing essential understandings, verbs should be active and in the present tense to ensure that the statement is timeless. Don’t use personal nouns. These cause essential understandings to become too specific, and it may become a fact. Make certain that an essential understanding reflects a relationship of two or more concepts. Write essentials understandings as complete sentences. Ask the question: What are the bigger ideas that transfer to other situations.
ASSESSMENTS: A brief explanation of Assessments Formative Assessments: Begin with the END in mind. Think of the tasks that is takes leading up to the completion of a project or unit. During a Science Fair, the formative assessment of the knowledge the learner is gaining along the way would be determined through class discussions, quizzes, daily assignments, research, note taking, journal entries, class work, worksheet, group participation, experiment data, etc... Summative Assessments: Think of the culminating task at the end of a unit or the final project. In the area of Science, the summative assessment of what the learner has mastered would be determined with the Science Fair Project. Summative assessment also comes from Unit Tests, End of the Chapter Tests, Completion of a portfolio, Completed Notebook, final projects, etc… It is also proper to list TCAP, ABACUS and STAR as a summative assessment but these should not be the only form of summative listed. PRECEDURES: List the steps to follow that are needed to take the learners successfully through the lesson. Keep in mind that the steps should be clear enough that a substitute teacher or colleague would be able to follow them correctly. DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION: List some variations to the lesson or other steps that can be followed to accommodate all the learners with varied abilities, etc…
