Good Morning BHS

Ryan: Good Morning BHS.  I’m Ryan Kilgore.

Cale:  I’m Cale Baskin.  We’re here to bring you all the news from Brighton High School.

Ryan:  BHS Band members and cheerleaders honored veterans yesterday by marching in the Covington Veterans Day Parade.

Cale:  Two more BHS students were recently selected Commercial Appeal’s Academic All-Stars.

Ryan:  Jane Evelyn Hill was selected the Foreign Language Academic All-Star.  Jane Evelyn excelled in her Spanish classes.  She was the Vice President then President of Spanish Club.  She plans to major in Spanish.  She has a 4.0 GPA and scored 26 on her ACT.  She has received the Cardinal Academic Excellence Award, is a Cardinal Red Level member and is in the Junior Scholastic Achievement Program.

Cale:  Jane Evelyn is also developing her leadership skills.  She attended the leadership camp, Tennessee Teen Institute, sponsored by the Tipton County Sheriff’s Department. She was a Girl’s State representative.  She has served as Cardinal Council Vice President for the last 3 years.

Ryan:  Jane Evelyn is very active at BHS. She was the 2008 Homecoming Queen.  She plays on both the Volleyball and Basketball teams.  She earned several Basketball awards including Academic Achievement, Best Overall Attitude, and Most Team Spirit.  She is a member of National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, FCA and SADD.

Cale:  Jane Evelyn volunteers for Habitat for Humanity, the Veteran’s Museum, her church’s altar guild, the First United Methodist Church’s puppet ministry and is a Junior JA.

Ryan: The Social Sciences & History Academic All-Star is Tyler Helmace.  Tyler has taken many Social Science courses.  He is currently taking AP Government and Economics.  He has a 3.64 GPA and scored 31 on the ACT which qualifies him for the Honor Roll, ACT All-Star Club, and Cardinal Excellence Award and Tennessee Scholar.

Cale:  He is a member of National Honor Society and Future Business Leaders of America.  Tyler’s team placed 1st in the state and in District in Network Design.  He enjoys working on computers and helps others with their computer problems.  He also does volunteer work with the National Honor Society.

Ryan:  The Bierdz GEO Stars for the 1st Nine Weeks.  They are Christopher Weiner, Audrey Abel, Audrey Brizendine, Kaitlin Smith, Caleb Wooten, Jordan Hester, Megan McDivitt, Cory O’Hara, and Katie Wilson.

Cale:  The Bierdz Senior Math Lab Stars are Timothy Dowden, Flatez Dyson, Atlanta Moritz, Ryan Alvarez, Loren Dean, Haley Franks, Samantha Stowell,

Ryan:  Mary Lynn Bruner, Gabe Dence, Phylea Foster, Kevin Johnson, Liz Russell, Lindsey Wilson and Nolan Mills.

 Cale:  In other news, Christmas pictures will be taken tomorrow during 1st and 2nd periods. You will be called out of class.  Please don’t leave on your own.

Ryan:  Governor’s School applications are due on November 18th.  The program is open to 10th and 11th graders.  A GPA of at least 3.0 is required.

Cale:  We will show a bus video approximately 8:55 this morning.

Ryan:  In Senior news, Senior invitations and caps and gowns will be delivered on Tuesday, December 2nd.  Students should bring their $80.00 deposit and order form.

Cale:  The Yearbook needs Senior credits. Include Clubs, awards, and sports you’ve been in.  Please give info to Paige Ellens by November 18th.
 
Cale:   In club news, FFA held their Sweetheart Pageant last night.  The Freshman Representative was Kara Glover. The Sophomore representative was Katie Wilson.  The Junior Representative was Mandy Laxton.  The Senior Representative was Anna Turner.

Ryan:  The People’s Choice winner was Ashley Glass.  Mallory Tapp won Ms. Congeniality.  The 3rd Runner up was Cambridge German.  The 2nd Runner up was Emily Kate Smith.  The 1st runner up was Liz Russell.

Cale:  The 2008 Brighton FFA Sweetheart was Kaitlynne Nabors.

Ryan:  This is Wildlife Week.  Today is Most Country Day.  The Wildlife Lunch will be held on Thursday. Friday will be Muddy Truck Day and Redneck Olympics starting at 3:00.

Cale:  Next week is HOSA Week. Monday is Officer Installation and Professional Dress.  Tuesday is Scrub Day.  On Wednesday there will be a teacher breakfast.  Teachers can wear jeans for a donation of paper goods. Thursday is HOSA Spirit Day.  Prizes will be given to the best decorated car & t-shirt designs are due.
On Friday there will be a Pizza lunch for HOSA members

Ryan:  FCCLA will be taking a field trip on December 9th.  If your last name begins with A-K, you need to purchase a T-shirt by November 18th. You will not be given a field trip form unless you purchase a t-shirt.  Field trip forms are due December 2nd.

Cale: Cardinal Council is sponsoring a “Turkey Teacher” contest!  Students can buy feathers to put on a teacher’s turkey or pay to take off feathers from a teacher’s turkey.  Feather sales will be held during lunches until Thanksgiving Break.  The winning teacher will receive a turkey, compliments of the Cardinal Council.

Ryan: In teacher news, there will be an In-service on Thursday from 3:15-6:15.

Cale:  In sports news, Congratulations to Coach Robin Jacobs for being selected the Athletic District 8 Male Coach of the Year.

Ryan:  Congratulations also go out to Coach Mike Grant for being voted 2nd place in the “Best of the Best” teacher for Tipton County in the Covington Leader.

Cale:  The Bowling team will take on Munford on Monday. Come out and show your support.

Ryan:  The Burger King Basketball Jamboree will be held at Dyersburg High School on Saturday, November 15th. The Girls play Halls at 4:45.  The Boys play Halls at 5:30.

Cale:  The Ken-Tenn representative will be here on Thursday to take orders for letter jackets.  The jackets cost $105 with one letter.  There will be a $35 late fee for jackets not ordered on Thursday. A $70.00 deposit is necessary to order a jacket.
